Society Heads of Department put the 'fun' into fundraising
Leeds Building Society has raised £4,500 so far for its chosen charities for 2010 - Leeds based St Gemma’s Hospice and Martin House Children’s Hospice. The Society is, therefore, well on track to meet its target of raising £10,000 in 2010, with a number of high profile events planned in for the second half of the year. St Gemma’s Hospice and Martin House Children’s Hospice were chosen by the Society’s ‘Heads Of’ Department following consultation with staff across the business.
Recent events have included a Quiz night and the Dragon Boat race at Roundhay Park in Leeds. The Quiz Night, held at Highlight in Leeds, was a great success and raised £330 in total for the two charities. This was followed up by two teams entering the Dragon Boat Race at Roundhay Park in Leeds. The Dragon Boat race raised £1,500 from the two boats entered into the event by the Society.
A mixed crew of Head Office and Branch staff banded together to raise much needed funds for Martin House Children's Hospice and St Gemma’s Hospice. By the third of our races we had got the hang of paddling more or less in time and were ready for a showdown with the other teams! We are all quite pleased with the results and are already planning a come back next year to improve our team times, and hopefully raise even more money!
An Easter themed fundraising event on 1 April included a raffle and a dress-down day, cake decorating and egg decorating competitions, which were well supported by staff.
A World Cup-themed day will take place at the end of June and will include a dress-down day, raffle, cake baking competition and sale and drinks after work. We’ll also run a Harvest Festival event in October and there will be a couple of sponsored walks as well.
Martin House and St. Gemma’s do fantastic work, and the support of the Society and its staff is helping them continue to do what they do best. We are well on track to reach our £10,000 target for the year, with some great fundraising taking place so far and a number of high profile events planned in for the remainder of 2010.
